The Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State witnessed a transformative intervention in its healthcare sector on Saturday, 10th January 2026.
This was driven by the Oba Micah and Olori Moronke Ajijo Foundation, which conducted a dual-pronged humanitarian initiative aimed at strengthening medical infrastructure and providing direct care.
The centerpiece of the intervention was the donation of a sophisticated 4D ultrasound Doppler machine to the State General Hospital in Igbokoda. This multi-million naira piece of equipment represents a significant upgrade to the facility’s diagnostic capabilities, promising to elevate the standard of care available locally.
Simultaneously, the Foundation executed an extensive free medical outreach program in Igbokoda. The event served over one thousand residents from the local government and adjoining communities, offering critical healthcare services at no cost to the beneficiaries.
During the formal handover ceremony, the Foundation’s President, Mrs. Yetunde Obabunmi Obuotor, articulated the profound significance of the donation. She described the ultrasound machine as far more than a technological asset, stating,
“It is a lifeline. It plays a crucial role in maternal and child health, emergency care, and the early detection of medical conditions.”
Mrs. Obuotor stressed the Foundation’s collaborative philosophy, noting its mission to support underserved communities through strategic partnerships. “We believe strongly that real development happens when we work together,” she said, framing the day as a shared investment in community health and hope.
The philanthropic drive, according to Foundation Secretary Mrs. Folashade Ajijo, is rooted in a family legacy of service. She explained that formalizing their long-standing charitable activities into a foundation was a step to ensure “accountability, structure and sustainable impact” across their focus areas of health, education, and livelihood.
The Ondo State Government endorsed the initiative as a substantial contribution to public health. Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, represented by the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Banji Ajaka, commended the donation and stressed the importance of diligent maintenance to safeguard the equipment’s long-term utility for patients.Medical experts highlighted the practical impact of the new machine.
Dr. Edino Ezekiel, Chief Medical Director of Igbokoda General Hospital, explained that the Doppler-enabled ultrasound would allow for detailed vascular and organ imaging, drastically reducing the need for patients to seek advanced diagnostics in distant urban centers.
The accompanying medical outreach was a meticulously organized affair. Led by Dr. Babatunde Akinbinu, a team of more than forty healthcare professionals screened and treated patients for a range of conditions, including hypertension, diabetes, malaria, and eye diseases, with free medication provided.
Dr. Akinbinu, who also serves as the Public Relations Officer for the Ondo State Nigerian Medical Association, disclosed that the Foundation funded the entire multi-million naira endeavor.
All consultations, drugs, and specialist services were delivered completely free of charge to the community.A key feature of the outreach was its emphasis on continuity of care. Comprehensive patient data was collected to facilitate follow-up treatment in collaboration with the General Hospital and primary health agencies, addressing the common pitfall of abandoned care for chronic conditions.
This data-driven strategy aims to prevent the deterioration that occurs when treatment is interrupted. Dr. Akinbinu noted that without sustained management, patients often resort to unsafe alternatives, leading to “preventable complications and deaths,” a cycle the Foundation seeks to break.
